About
Welcome
to the Tanuki Cup.
2-Man Scramble - 36 Holes - 2 day event
The Tanuki Cup was established in 2020 during the worldwide pandemic when the entire planet went into lockdown. 8 brave men drove over 400 miles to the Northwoods of Wisconsin, seeking refuge, a large pasta dinner, and solitude in the form of golf. The tournament consists of 36 holes played over 2 days, where the lowest 2 man scramble score takes the cup. The Tournament moved south in 2021, and is now held annually at Lake Carroll Golf Club in Lenark, Illinois.
Winners receive a one year watch over the famous Tanuki Cup, a silver-plated antique trophy with origins rooted in 1920's Great Britain. Historians suspect that a Tanuki once called the Cup his sake chalice.
What is a tanuki?
"One of the more curious symbols is the tanuki, a raccoon dog that represents a traditional Japanese prankster god. The tanuki is known in the West best from Super Mario Brothers 3, which features a tanuki suit that allows Mario to change form into a statue and to fly, as well as from the Studio Ghibli film Pom Poko, which is about a gang of tanuki (although in the English language version of the film they were misrepresented as badgers.)"
